The oh-so-social crème de la crème rubbed elbows at Fete de Swifty, a benefit supporting The Mayor’s Fund, which helps victims of domestic violence. Gossip maven extraordinaire Liz Smith hosted, as she always has, as the founder of the glitzy event. La Liz’s “brainchild benefit” has raised well over $2 mil in its mere five years.
Held under a sweeping block-long tent, the evening’s buzzing festivities were a unique blend of street fair and cocktail party. Mayor Bloomberg made an appearance, kicking off the evening with a short speech that trumpeted the cause and thanked La Liz.
The event was a neighborly hodgepodge of newcomers and usual suspects: Mariska Hargitay, Amanda Burden, Carolina Herrera, Joan Collins and Percy Gibson, Charlotte Ford, Patti Harris, Police Commish Ray Kelly, Ethan Hawke, Ron Perelman, Muriel Siebert, Rob Speyer, Bill Rudin, Beth DeWoody, Deborah Norville, Barbara de Portago, Iris Cantor, Audrey Gruss, Dan and Cynthia Lufkin, Cece Cord, Joni Evans, Mark Gilbertson, Mildred Brinn, Frances Hayward, Matthew Modine, Coco Kopelman, and Daisy Soros. On a dreadful day on Wall Street, the city block around Swifty’s was celebratory and hopeful. |
