When Don Trump Jr. and wife Vanessa brought their baby girl Kai to Geisha for the launch of Japanese fur designer Chie Imai’s new eco-friendly collection, you could bet the conversation would be baby-centric. When we told Trump Jr. that Hampton Sheet Publisher Joan Jedell’s 3-year-old granddaughter Emily gave Don’s half-brother Barron (son of The Donald and Melania) his first kiss on Park Ave, Jr. quipped, “Where were those girls when I was 3?”
We’re not sure where “those” girls were, but we do know that many beautiful, fur-clad ladies of New York were gathered on this occasion at Geisha to help fur designer Chie Imai celebrate her 2008-2009 Royal Chie Collection, Mosaique de Chie Eco Harmony. Conceived by Chie herself, the line is a collaboration of fur and ecological material created by Eco Circle, the world’s most advanced recycling system from Teijin Limited—a true fusion of elegance and chemical technology, and in an eco-friendly form. Admirers of the collection that evening also included Ivanka Trump, Janice Combs, Francine LeFrak, Tanya and Spike Lee, Chiaki Imai, Kate Rockwell, Irina Pantaeva, and Joe Edwards.
Chie’s avant-garde interest in the global environment has won her international recognition. A natural bridge-builder, she brings together two worlds that have long been seen as polar opposites—fur and ecology—and she has done it with the flair of a true revolutionary.
