It
was a night nobody will ever forget, and where else
could it take place but Elaine's? Election 2000,
hosted by Miramax honcho Harvey Weinstein and Talk
editor Tina Brown, along with possible New York
City mayoral candidate Michael Bloomberg, and you
don't need a recount to know the VIP watering hole
was crammed with celebs, media stars, and high society.
Hardcore Dems included Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck,
Sigourney Weaver, Patricia Duff, Chevy Chase, and
Jennifer Lopezwho resisted having her picture
taken, maybe because she wasn't overexposed as usual…
this night she played it low-key in a turtleneck
                              sweater!

                              Die-hard Republican Georgette Mosbacher commanded
a table in a far corner, from which came plenty
of moans when Hillary Clinton cinched the New York
Senate race. Nonstop boos and applause (not to mention
nonstop booze and schmooze) made the night as wild
as a ninth-inning tie in the World Series. Of course
every gossip columnist in town was focused more
on the celebs than the campaign, on the lookout
                              for the next exclusive scoop!

Bill and Hil were slated to make a surprise entrance,
but at the last minute after the Secret Service
cased the joint, they decided to invite 50 VIPers
to join them at the Hyatt. As for the nail-biting
Presidential election, I think the candidates should
have flipped a coin, arm wrestled, or dueled to
the finish. As for Capitol Hil, last year in The
Sheet, I predicted she'd run and win the NY
Senate race as a steppingstone back to the White
House, and Bill would become first lady! Can you
see him in a blue pants suit? Stay tuned...
