Lincoln Center burst at the seams with a cross-section of celebs and social types arriving in droves to a once-in-a-lifetime salute to operatic diva Beverly Sills, known to her friends as Bubbles. “Thank You Beverly” was on everyone’s lips as Bev, who’s an eight-year veteran as Lincoln Center Chairman of the Board, got kudos from hosts Liz Smith, Carol Burnett, and Barbara Walters. La Bev, who’s no stranger to the stage, could relax in her seat as Placido Domingo, Audra McDonald, tenor Salvatore Licitra, violinist Gil Shaham, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and the young piano virtuoso Lang Lang, wowed the audience with unique musical stylings. Candice Bergen, Helen Gurley Brown, Ed Koch, Carl Icahn, Arnold Scaasi, Le Cirque’s Sirio Maccioni, Henry and Marie-Josée Kravis, Paul and Daisy Soros, and Lincoln Center’s president, Reynold Levy, rounded out the power-packed crowd. Finally, Mayor Bloomberg awarded Ms. Sills with Lincoln Center’s “Laureate Award” to the delight of her distinguished peers. Brava!
