Some of the biggest names in the music world filled the grand ballroom of the Marriott Marquis to benefit the G&P Foundation for Cancer Research at this year’s over-the-top “Angel Ball.” Socialite and songwriter Denise Rich started the Foundation in memory of her daughter, Gabrielle Rich Aouad, who tragically lost her battle with AML leukemia at 27. This year’s ball, which almost immediately sold out, raised an extraordinary $2 mil! Denise’s generosity exploded with this nonstop party, complete with a gyrating dance floor and a lineup of spectacular performers, starting with a hot and sexy salsa set from superstar Marc Anthony and Dame Shirley Bassey, whose voice thundered through the audience as she bellowed her momentous hit “Goldfinger.” The Dynamites and Patti La Belle (who can thank Zang Toi for her numerous costume changes) energized the crowd, as did Wyclef Jean, Jessica Simpson, Heather Headley, Kristine W, and Sarah Dash.
Gabriel Byrne, Fran Drescher, Star Jones, and Barbara Walters hosted the swanky evening, which honored Clive Davis, Marty Richards, and Bonnie Fuller, who moved the crowd with the story of her 6-year-old’s ongoing battle with leukemia. Real estate mogul Donald Trump presented another real estate mogul, Sol Kerzner, chairman and CEO of Kerzner International, with an award, stating, “Sol is a man of vision. I ought to know! He’s my competitor!”
Among the mass of A-listers partying the night away were Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Helen Gurley Brown, Joan Collins and Percy Gibson, Lawrence and Anne Marie Graff, Deborah Gibson, Rena Sindi, Laura Hunt, Michele Rella, Ivana Trump and Rossano Rubicondi, and Montel Williams. All who were lucky enough to join in the revelry spun into the whirl of high spirits, filling next morning’s daze with wonderful flashbacks.
