A-listers headed to the UA Southampton Cinema for the screening of Paramount Classics' Asylum, hosted by the Hamptons International Film Festival and Elle magazine. The drama flick, directed by David Mackenzie (Young Adam), is based on Patrick McGrath's book; the screenplay was penned by Patrick Marber (Closer). Set in the 1950s, the film stars Max (Hugh Bonneville) and Stella (Natasha Richardson) as a couple who have recently moved to the grounds of a psychiatric hospital where Max has accepted the position of deputy superintendent. Stella becomes passionately involved with a patient, Edgar (Marton Csokas), an artist accused of gruesomely murdering his wife in a jealous rage. Peter (Ian McKellen), the hospital's senior physician, watches as the relationship between Stella and Edgar progresses. Stella is eventually forced to make a choice between her family and one that can only lead to tragedy.
Andrew Saffir, founder of the Cinema Society, chaired the evening. Following the screening, guests headed to the oceanfront home of Bob and Rowann Villency on Meadow Lane for a blazing bonfire and a savory dinner on the beach, catered by the Clamman. Those partaking in the festivities: Asylum's Mackenzie and Csokas, International Film Festival Chair Stuart Match Suna, Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky, Calvin Klein, Rick and Kathy Hilton, Eric Villency, James Lipton, Ray Abruzzo, Marjorie Gubelmann Raein, Marty Richards, Ross Bleckner, Julia and David Koch, Sam Bottoms, Daniel Benedict, Luke Redgrave, Tinsley Mortimer, Samantha Gregory, Jackie Astier, Dayssi Olarte de Kanovas, Kimberly Newsom, Ann and Keith Barish, Douglas Hannant, Patty Raynes, and Robbie Myers.
