Elle Décor’s “Dining By Design,” presented by Champagne Taittinger, was the first of its kind in the Hamptons. It’s the annual benefit for the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA).
In letters signed by Victoire Taittinger Gardner, the Taittinger family invited 200 guests to Pinewood West Studios in Wainscott to sip champagne, kick up a few heels, and dine at one of 20 Champagne Taittinger-hosted “fantasy tables.” Architects, artists, and interior, floral, and fashion designers sat down with the guests at each of the fantasy tables. For example, a most outrageous table by Serena Bass and Edward Riddle was nestled inside a giant birdcage!
Fabulous seatings also came from Margaret Russell for Elle Décor, who went Hawaiian paradise with flowers, colors, and bamboo chairs. Suzanne Furst recreated the lushness and rich color of the Far East; and Stephen Saint-Onge enthroned his own royal feast in a regal setting.
Other designers’ creations we admired included Robert Rufino for Tiffany & Company, Albert Lynch for Bill Hulsman Home, Thea Alexander and Keith Recker for Digs, and Antony Todd for Stark Carpets.
At the glittering Taittinger table (Preston Bailey’s “House of Glass”), we sat amongst Victoire Taittinger Gardner, Star Jones, Betsey Johnson, Jerry Della Femina, Florence Fabricant, and creative genius Preston Bailey himself.
Passing by to chat … Peter Beard and Nicole Miller, who stepped between the shards of light reflecting off our crystal glasses.
Following the gala dinner, a Champagne Taittinger “Bubble Blast” crowned this truly elegant evening. Enchanted guests pranced away their palate-pleasing indulgences when the gyrating began on the dance floor. The evening was reminiscent of the Decadent ’80s...
No sign of a sluggish economy here!
