Director Brad Anderson, screenwriter Scott Kosar

Ziegfeld Theater was aglow with star power at the premiere of The Machinist, followed by an after-party at Crobar. The screening officially kicked off the IFP (Independent Feature Project) Market and Conference, a week-long celebration of independent film.

The Machinist, a psychological thriller which earned rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival last January, stars Christian Bale (who snared the lead role in the 2005 Batman Begins) as Trevor Reznik, an insomnia-ridden industrial worker. Sleep-deprived for one year, he lives his endless waking hours in a state of confusion, anxiety, terror, and deteriorating health. As the film progresses, clues eventually lead to the source of his mysterious disorder.

Those spotted with eyes wide open on the red carpet: Director Brad Anderson with infant daughter, Estelle; screenwriter Scott Kosar; Gloria Steinem; Cara Buono; and Paramount Classics' Ruth Vitale and David Dinerstein. You won't sleep through this one!
