Rolling Stones fans got some satisfaction at the Ziegfeld Theatre for HBO’s NY
premiere of Crossfi re Hurricane. Brett Morgen’s documentary offers neverbefore-
seen footage and fresh insight from band members, providing a new
perspective on the Stones’ unparalleled journey from blues-obsessed teenagers
in the early sixties to rock royalty.
When we asked if any moments stuck out more than others, Mick Jagger
quipped with his famous dry wit: “Not really. I can make them up if you
want.” Getting more sentimental, he said: “When we fi rst got a record deal …
when we had our fi rst number one, that was big. … When we did our fi rst stadium
tour of America, that was great…. There are a lot of highlights.” But are
there still the groupies? “I hope so!”
Jagger and fellow Stones Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood
all reunited on the red carpet to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary, their
documentary, and their reunion tour. Richards told us that, half a century
later, the chemistry continues: “The minute you get behind your instrument
and do what you’re doing, it’s amazingly familiar.”
