In a rousing roast of lighthearted jabs, the NY media spoofed Mayor Michael Bloomberg at the annual Inner Circle Dinner at the Hilton.
Jokes kept on flying from start to finish-including on the dinner menu, which featured Ray Kelly Greens, White House Leeks, Barakoli Obama, Bloomburgers, Koch of the Day, Black-out Cake With Melted Ice Cream, and Spitzer's Spritzers. Performances included the hilarious parodies "Look at Me, I'm Mikey B" (to the tune of the Grease hit "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee"), "Ebony and Ivory" (in reference to Thur-mond and Sharpton), and "Steamroller Blues" (poking fun at Spitzer).
Then the tables turned as Bloomberg himself took the stage with his rebuttal. The mayor danced and sang in a rendition of Mary Poppins (alongside the Broadway cast). The skit started with a depiction of young Mike and his family in front of their charming English cottage, with clipped British accents. When Mary Poppins is brought in to work her magic, an adolescent Mike questions their English house, clothes, and accents-"when we're actually just Jews from Massachusetts!"
Bloomberg kept up on some tough dance numbers, and just as Mary Poppins flew in with her umbrella, he soared into the sky (literally lifted offstage and out the side curtains) to go and save the rest of the country.
Power-player attendees included: Bill O'Reilly, Police Commish Ray Kelly, Jon Tisch, Mo Rocca, John and Margo Catsimatidis, Mary and Curtis Sliwa, Andrew Cuomo, Howard Rubenstein, Don Epstein, Rita Cosby, Valerie Anderson, Mayor David Dinkins, Christo and Jeanne Claude, and Donald and Barbara Tober.
