The annual International Red Cross Ball held at Donald Trump’s elite Mar-a-Lago Club had a renewed sense of urgency after the tsunami, as more than 700 tiara-topped ladies and dapper gents gathered in the red-and-white floral-decorated, newly renovated Grand Ballroom, where The Donald had wed Melania Knauss just one week earlier. The ball was first launched there, nearly 50 years ago, by the estate’s original owner, Marjorie Merriweather Post. The event, chaired by Simon Fireman, benefited the American Red Cross in Palm Beach.
While sampling cocktails and hors d’oeuvres by the pool, guests decked out in their own fair share of bling viewed a brilliant display of Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry. Inside, legendary singer and songwriter Neil Sedaka kept the crowd entertained.
Along with the glittering crowd, the Ball drew ambassadors from 12 countries, many flown in on a private luxury jet owned by Trump, who again served as Chairman of Ambassadorial Arrangements.
