Katie Couric, Hélèn Benhamou

When home-style expert Hélène Benhamou was given the challenge of creating luxurious table settings at a non-luxurious price, where did the savvy Benhamou head first? To Wal-Mart, of course!

Benhamou, owner of the chic Mad Ave home décor boutique A La Maison, was challenged by NBC’s Today’s Katie Couric to design three fanciful table settings for under $50 each. Her beautifully designed table creations included cheerful pink placemats, white candles, and delicately designed teacups. “Every person can afford to turn his or her environment into something beautiful and it doesn’t have to cost a lot,” says Benhamou. Clearly, she has the je ne sais quois to create elegance with her new focus … style on a budget!
