Barbara Tober with her portrait

It’s delightfully daunting trying to describe artist James Childs’ work. How can words capture his talent to express life’s glorious spirit? They can’t. You must go and see his paintings for yourself. That’s why Barbara and Donald Tober hosted a cocktail party fêting the accomplished artist. Guests attending the unveiling of Childs’ commissioned portrait of Barbara (who chairs the Board of Governors of the Museum of Arts & Design, which will be moving to 2 Columbus Circle in 2006) included Christopher Mason, Catherine Cahill, Jackie Drake, Randy Jones, and Larry and Denise Wohl. Childs managed to capture the complex beauty of his subject. The larger-than-life oil depicts Barbara as both stoic and glamorous, attesting to Childs’ unique style of classical realism.
