The Drama League went all out to salute Dame of Dish Liz Smith at its annual dinner at the Pierre. Performers included Christine Baranski, Kaye Ballard, Valerie Harper, Michele Lee, Ann Richards, Tony Roberts, Gary Beach, Bebe Neuwirth, and emcee Elaine Stritch. Pals like Marisa Berenson, Felicia Taylor, Jeanne Lawrence, and Elizabeth Stribling sat at tables adorned with cowboy hats, red bandanas, and glitter, all in honor of the Texan-born gossip queen, who got a kick watching numbers like “Natural Blonde” and “Give It to Liz.” Ann Richards quipped, “Liz came to this town so green it would’ve taken a rabbit to find her in a lettuce field.” And Stritch described Smith as the “greatest bullshit cutter-througher of all time,” not to mention a woman “who can walk into Le Cirque like it’s Starbucks and Starbucks like it’s Le Cirque!”
