True theatre lovers packed the Waldorf for the American Theatre Wing’s Annual Gala. The night brought out David and Helen Gurley Brown, Ted Hartley and Dina Merrill, Harold Prince, Clive Davis, Lucie Arnaz, Isabelle Stevenson, host Jerry Orbach, Jerry Bock, Cy Coleman, Pia Lindstrom, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, Marvin Hamlisch, Sheldon Harnick, and Jerry Herman. The American Theatre Wing, founder of the Tony Awards, brings home the arts with its many programs—which include grants and scholarships programs, theatre in high schools, and programs in which Broadway stars perform in hospitals, senior citizen centers, AIDS facilities, and child care centers in New York. Quite simply, Broadway at its best.
