Sheryl Crow rocked the crowd at Cipriani Wall Street at the second installment of the Cipriani Wall Street Concert Series and sumptuous dinner, sponsored by luxe jeweler de Grisogono. The event benefited Wall Street Rising, a nonprofit coalition of downtown businesses, industries, and residents striving to restore vibrancy and vitality to Lower Manhattan, post-9/11.
The Series kicked off in March with a performance by Rod Stewart, and has also featured Lionel Richie and Alicia Keys. Upcoming performances: Marc Anthony on Sept. 15, Donna Summer on Oct. 18, and a closing performance by Beyonce on Nov. 1.
The crooning Crow was introduced to eager fans by Kevin Bacon—who regularly performs on stage as half of the band “The Bacon Brothers”—with the droll comment, “Sometimes you get tired of the pumped-up little pop babes.” Crow moved the crowd to their feet all night. They danced on chairs and sang along to hits such as “All I Wanna Do,” “If It Makes You Happy,” “The First Cut Is the Deepest,” “Strong Enough,” and “Soak Up The Sun.”
In the mix: Giuseppe Cipriani, de Grisogono Founder Fawaz Gruosi, Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, Harvey Weinstein, Eva and Roberto Cavalli, Damon Dash and Rachel Roy, Amanda Ungaro, Margherita Missoni, Lydia Hearst-Shaw, Todd Meister (Nicky Hilton’s minute-and-a-half hubby), Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, Kelly and Gilles Bensimon, Nigerian-born model Oluchi, Carol Alt, Serena Boardman, Lizzie Grubman, Alex Kramer, Jonathan Cheban, Steven and Heather Mnuchin, and Vanessa von Bismarck.
Concert goers also bid on both men and women’s de Grisogono limited-edition watches, featuring the engraved words “Lower Manhattan” on the dial. The word on the street: The downtown district’s back, big-time!
