Party-goers flocked to Wainscott for The 2004 Hampton Designer Showhouse Gala Preview, presented by House & Garden and benefiting the Southampton Hospital.
This year, Michael Burns of the Burns Development Corp. donated the use of his extravagant, shingle-style spec mansion, which was transformed into a work of art by nearly 30 of America’s top interior designers, landscape architects, and decorative artists. Those contributing their unique sense of artistry included: Jonathan Adler, Nancy Corzine, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s Thom Filicia, Elizabeth Lear, Kate Spade, and Michael Tyson Murphy. Event chairs included: Mario Buatta, Mildred Brinn, Charlotte Moss, Catherine di Montezemolo, and Dominique Browning. The Showhouse will be open to the public through August 1 and is selling for a cool $9-mil with over 14,000 sq. ft. of living space.
The crowd meandered through the mansion and garden while sipping cocktails, enjoying live music, and noshing on hors d’oeuvres by caterer Peter Callahan. Those in the mix included: Jamee and Peter Gregory, Jamie Drake, Pia Lindstrom, Tony Ingrao, and Randy Kempner. The Sheet caught up with Martha Stewart in the garden, where she told us that she was trying to keep her spirits up in the wake of her recent legal battle. Still, she seemed positive and upbeat, embracing and savoring every minute of freedom while chatting up guests at the Gala. Wondering what else we could do for Martha besides just offer kind words … we went shopping and stocked up on Kmart’s line of Martha Stewart products, which were displayed at the entrance!
