Tom Brokaw

With Tom Brokaw as emcee, The Citizens Committee for New York’s Celebration of Great New Yorkers honored the best of the boroughs in art, business, and philanthropy at the Waldorf. Hampton Sheet favorite Robert DeNiro was honored for his work with the Tribeca Film Festival, while veteran cab driver James Beatrice was honored for his community service (unlike Bobby’s famous Taxi Driver character!). Other distinguished honorees included Arthur Ross, Maurice Greenberg, violinist Midori, Mohammed Salman (honored posthumously for his bravery during the attacks on the World Trade Center, where he tragically perished), and James Beatrice.

The black-tied, big-appled crowd included personalities like Kofi Annan, Matt and Annette Lauer, and special guest Whoopi Goldberg (billed as a “good friend” of Bobby DeNiro). It was an evening that reminded us that if you can make it here, you can also work to make this city better than ever. It’s up to all of us here in good ‘ole New York, New York!
