It’s not every day that you hear a story of a true New York City / Hamptons romance. Hampton Sheet recently caught up with Andrea Catsimatidis and Christopher Nixon Cox hot on the campaign trail for Christopher’s recently launched run for congress in the First District of Long Island.
Andrea, 20, the only daughter of New York City philanthropists John and Margo Catsimatidis, is a student at NYU’s Stern School of Business. Billionaire Catsimatidis has business interests including Gristedes Supermarkets in Manhattan and Westchester, and United Refining Company in Warren, PA.
At NYU, Andrea is the president of the NYU Republican Club. She, like her parents, is also committed to philanthropic endeavors. Andrea’s efforts have been honored, along with her brother, John Jr. and family, at both the annual Parkinson’s Disease Foundation dinner and last autumn’s Rita Hayworth Alzheimer’s Gala. More recently, Andrea, who is fluent in Japanese, co-hosted the Mayors of Peace Foundation kickoff party for this fall’s dinner, which was attended by the Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and special guests Michael Douglas and Yoko Ono. She also serves on the Advisory Board of the Tolstoy Foundation and other committees such as the Police Athletic League and the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
Christopher, who told Hampton Sheet that his family has lived in the Hamptons for over 150 years, comes from a long legacy of politicians. His father, Ed Cox, is the New York State Republican party Chairman, and his mother, Tricia Nixon Cox, is the daughter of the late President Richard Nixon. A graduate of Princeton and NYU Law, Christopher recently announced his candidacy to seek the GOP nomination to run against four-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop in eastern Long Island—a seat, many have said, that Republicans hope to win as part of the party’s effort to recapture the House.
According to Catsimatidis, Andrea started dating Christopher at age 18, six months after the two met at her school when Christopher came to deliver a lecture. “She’s my only daughter. I would be hard pressed to find any father who wouldn’t have preferred it if their only daughter didn’t marry until her 30’s. But I have to tell you this ... I am very fortunate because Chris is one of the nicest young men I’ve ever met,” said John. The couple is planning to wed in two years following Andrea’s graduation. “We are so lucky to have found a life partner in each other. We share the same values and ideals and a strong commitment to charitable causes and political issues,” said Andrea.
Sounds like the beginning of a New York Camelot story...
