Marlene Dietrich in Dr. No’s Ludovico Clinic (Dr. Baby Erzland)—wait, what? This unusual title for the 15th Annual Watermill Center Gala raised a penny or two, $1.5 mil if you want to be exact, for the center’s year-round international artist residencies and education programs.
The mentioned title is also the name of a site-specific installation created for the event by artist Jonathan Meese. Guests also enjoyed outdoor installations by an array of international artists throughout the wooded grounds including avant-garde performance group Shakespeare’s Wild Sisters, noise-rock band Japanther, drummers from the U-Theatre, and installation artist Anita Dube.
Those who came out to support the benefit were an art installation in themselves: Rufus Wainwright, Rachel Zoe, Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky, Kim Cattrall, Tatiana and Campion Platt, and Somers and Jonathan Farkas. |
