The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) hosted a weekend of celebration in honor of BAM President Karen Brooks Hopkins for her 25 years of service with the organization. One of Hopkins' greatest contributions to the arts has been a successful campaign to earn $50 mil for the restoration of BAM's landmark 1908 building. The urban arts center supports performing arts and film in Brooklyn.
The festivities began on Saturday night with tasty dinner and a "hip-hop-meets-classical-music" performance by Daniel Bernard Roumain and his eight-piece band, DBR and the Mission. The soiree was held at Two Trees Stable in Bridgehampton, the home of developer David Walentas and his wife, Jane. The real estate magnate's most notable venture is the conversion of the area known as DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) in Brooklyn-from industrial warehouses into an ultra-trendy, artsy, family-friendly waterfront neighborhood filled with condos, funky stores, and hip businesses.
Guests included: Choreographer Tricia Brown; Saskia Beskow; NYC Ballet Principal Dancer Benjamin Millepied; Steve Fiesher; Adam Max; Beth Rudin DeWoody; Stewart Lane and Bonnie Comley; Nora Ann Wallace; Independence Community Bank CEO Alan Fishman with wife, Judy; Pamela Golinski; and Edison Jackson.
