The Annual Watermill Summer benefit was a huge success this year with over $1 mil generated for the Watermill International Summer Arts Program, as well as for the construction of the Watermill Center's main building. Founded in 1992, the Center supports new approaches to the arts.

The theme for this year's benefit was "Brazil," in celebration of Brazilian artists-in-residence Tatiana Grinberg, Joćo Modé, Paula Gabriela, and Os Gemeos. Guests were in the spirit, many of them exhibiting outfits that were considered colorful masterpieces, themselves. Works of art hung both inside and outside the building, as well as in the surrounding woods, where wide-eyed guests mingled and remarked on the display of talent. Many of the pieces were interactive; some had partygoers coming into contact with performance artists.

Simon De Pury auctioned portraits by Annie Leibovitz, Andres Serrano, and host Robert Wilson. In the throng: Calvin Klein, Veronica Hearst, Claudia Cohen, Princess Elena of Spain, Sophie Dahl, Kate Spade, Bob Colacello, Arnold Scaasi and Parker Ladd, Jamee Gregory, Judy and Alfred Taubman, Larry Gagosian, Princess Mimi Romanoff, Zac Posen, Richard Meier, Ross Bleckner, James Lipton, and Anh Duong.
