Cy Coleman with daughter Lily and wife Shelby

After more than four decades as a force in NYC theater and films, legendary composer and vocalist Cy Coleman, now 75, returned to his first love-sitting behind the keys of a piano before a live audience. Coleman's nearest and dearest friends saluted his talent at a chic cocktail party at Feinstein's at the Regency to kick off his two-week run with his Cy Coleman Jazz Trio, featuring Gary Haase on bass and Buddy Williams on drums.

The former piano prodigy played recitals at Carnegie Hall before age 10 and was a fixture in Manhattan supper clubs by age 17. He has written standards such as "Witchcraft," "I've Got Your Number," and "Firefly," as well as the scores for countless Broadway hit shows, including the Tony Award-winning The Will Rogers Follies and City of Angels, The Life, Barnum, I Love My Wife, Seesaw, Sweet Charity, and Little Me.

Next up: Pamela's First Musical, his collaboration with playwright Wendy Wasserstein (in work-shops this winter), and Like Jazz, written with Marilyn and Alan Bergman (scheduled for a spring Broadway debut). Stay tuned!
