Pratt Institute and Luxe Pack hosted the Art of Packaging Award Gala, an annual event that attracts the top tier of the world’s multibillion-dollar cosmetics industry. The glam black-tie affair this May honored Sumit Bhasin of P&G Prestige, and benefited Pratt’s Marc Rosen Scholar-ship and Education Fund for Packaging by Design. The fund supports the only scholarship in the world available to college students looking to pursue careers in cosmetics and packaging design. At Pratt, Rosen teaches a course on cosmetics and fragrance packaging design, which is the only course of its kind in the world. Bhasin accepted the Art of Packaging Award from Nathalie Grosdidier, executive director of Luxe Pack, for P&G Prestige’s outstanding commitment to the fragrance industry. At P&G, Bhasin has been responsible for developing leading-edge technologies for fashion icon houses Hugo Boss, Escada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Puma. Bhasin delivered an inspiring speech on how breakthrough innovation comes when art and science intersect.
    Vanity Fair’s Amy Fine Collins was mistress of ceremonies at the scented event, where partygoers wined and dined at a private club in Manhattan. Special guests included internationally acclaimed designer and Pratt trustee Marc Rosen; actress Arlene Dahl; Jonathan and Somers Farkas; Pratt president Thomas F. Schutte and his wife, Tess; Pratt Institute Board of Trustees chair Mike Pratt; Pratt School of Art and Design dean Concetta Stewart; jewelry designer Donald Stannard; and Annette Greene, president emeritus of the Fragrance Founda-tion. The evening contributed to a total of $3.5 mil that the gala has raised over the past 22 years.
