Doodles by actors, artists, and sports icons were the big draw at the Doodle for Hunger charity art auction, held at Tavern on the Green. Guests bid on original artwork created by A-list celebrities, including Sir Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hanks, Randy Jackson, Cher, and Conan O’Brien. Proceeds benefited the Capuchin Food Pantries, which helps feed and shelter 5,000 underprivileged families in New York each week.
Fox 5’s Ernie Anastos hosted the event, which included a cocktail party, Doodle preview, and a silent and live auction led by Tony LoBianco. Margo and John Catsimatidis were the presenting sponsors.
Former New York Rangers Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert was the Guest of Honor and writer, animator and children’s book author/illustrator Mo Willems was honored as Artist of the Year. A special 10th Anniversary Award was presented to artists Peter Max and LeRoy Neiman, as well as Daily News Sports illustrator Bill Gallo, for their loyal support.
The drawings certainly made for a fun and inventive benefit. We always knew celebrities liked to canoodle, but turns out they also like to doodle!
