The Alzheimer’s Association Rita Hayworth Gala, underwritten by Rolex USA, is always a much-anticipated event, and this year’s party, held at the Waldorf, and themed So Near & Yet So Far, was no exception. The gala raised $1.9 mil to support the Association’s goal of eliminating the disease.

The Stingers Band had the crowd of over 600 guests dancing the night away. Roger Waters of Pink Floyd strummed an acoustic guitar and, backed by a band that included G.E. Smith and three gospel singers, sang “Wish You Were Here.” And The Pointer Sisters gave a great performance as well.

Muffie Potter Aston received the Rita Hayworth Award, Lonnie Wollin, Esq. received the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Castsimatidis family (John, Margo, Andrea, and John Jr.) received the Family Philanthropy Award.

Gala chairs included Founder of the Rita Hayworth Gala, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan (Hayworth’s daughter), Alexandra Lebenthal, and Allen Brill of Rolex served as Underwriting Chair. Celebrity attendees included Regis Philbin, Brooke Shields, Art Garfunkel, Dan Aykroyd, John McEnroe, Eric Ripert, and Harvey Keitel.

It was a night of glam and style, just like the gala’s beloved namesake.
