The Plaza welcomed a parade of powerful women for
Citymeals-on-Wheels’ 26th annual Power Lunch for
Women. Lara Spencer MC’d the luncheon, honoring
Paula Zahn and Randi and Dennis Riese for their
commitment to the city’s homebound elderly.
Guest songbird Roberta Flack chatted with us
about her classic chanson, “Killing Me Softly”: “That
kind of song is what connects us as human beings …
and I’m so grateful that I had the chance to introduce
it to the world.”
Tony Award-winning Audra McDonald performed
for guests who included Christine Baranski, Bette
Midler, Sandra Lee, Betsy Bernardaud, Gael Greene,
Donna Hanover, Caroline Hirsch, Margo MacNabb
Nederlander, Deborah Roberts, Rikki Klieman, Silda
Wall Spitzer, Diana Taylor, Laurie Tisch, Kathleen
Turner, and Lillian Vernon.
Although the event celebrated powerful women,
the few good men who braved the
female-favored room (at $10,000 a
head) included Jeffrey Bliss, Bill
Bratton, Henry Buhl, Steve Hanson,
Michael Lynne, Jon Tisch, Donald
Tober, Bronson Van Wyck, and
Steven Zavagli.
The event raised an impressive
$1.2 mil—enough to provide more
that 175,000 nutritious meals for
New York’s seniors.
