It was far from fashion as usual as Cipriani 42nd St. hosted Fashion Week's most remarkable show, Rolling With Style, which paid homage to successful women who have overcome their physical disabilities. The extravaganza-brainchild of beautiful co-chairs Ashley Lauren Fisher, Marilyn Hamilton, Julia Dorsett, and Wendy Craw-ford-wowed the 600 gathered guests.
Designers Marc Bouwer, Thom Brown, Zang Toi, St. John Knits, Lloyd Klein, Kimora Lee for Baby Phat, and Nicole Miller contributed their talent by designing a wheelchair for each of the chairwomen-or one of the four "roll" models-of enormous achievement, who have not let physical challenges define their lives.
The fashion show razzled and dazzled with Chudney Ross (Diana's youngest daughter) joining supermodels Kim Alexis, Carol Alt, and Irina Pantaeva on the runway. Dr. Ruth, Rita Cosby (who the next day would break the news of Anna Nicole Smith's tragic death), Prince Lorenzo Borghese, Dr. Yan Trokel, Martina and Fabian Basabe, Catherine Forbes, and Ed Libby also lent their support. Attendees were treated to performances by Deborah (and don't call her Debbie!) Gibson and Shani.
Glitz and glamour have rarely been this inspiring; the gala reminded the fashion industry (and the world!) that women in chairs are beautiful and interested in fabulous clothes, great makeup, and hot hairdos. It was an evening-and message-not to be forgotten.
