Broadway is abuzz with praise for the smash hit Grey Gardens. The National Arts Club took time to recognize the achievements of Albert Maysles-who created the original 1975 documentary with his late brother, David, about the astonishing life of squalor lived by Jackie O's aunt and first cousin in East Hampton-and the creative team behind the musical by presenting them with the Medal of Honor for Theatre.
The evening, directed by Joel Vig, featured tributes, stories, and songs from members of the cast and design team, and a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the Broad-way experience.
Artistic attendees included Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Christina Fontanelli, Catherine Johnson, Dianne Bernhard, Sharon Bush, Catherine Corman, Erin Davie, Scott Frankel, Sarah Hyland, Lee Roy Reams, O. Aldon James Jr., Michael Kori, Scott Frankel, Michael Greif, Doug Wright, Sumner Glimcher, and Laura Coxson.
Liz Smith summed up the evening best: "A trip to Grey Gardens is worth every step."
