There were no small parts when A-list couples Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Diana Taylor, Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower, and Maria Cuomo Cole and Kenneth Cole stepped out for the Juilliard School’s Centennial Gala at Lincoln Center. The legendary performing arts establishment, which boasts an array of talented grads in the entertainment industry, cele-brated with a spectacular live performance telecast on PBS featuring many of its famous alums—composer/conductor John Williams, soprano Renée Fleming, actor Kevin Kline, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, jazz saxophonist Victor Goines, trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, violinist Itzhak Perlman, and pianist Emanuel Ax. The event, hosted by Beverly Sills and chaired by Cynthia and Dan Lufkin, raised over $5.5 mil toward educating tomorrow’s leaders in the performing arts.
Following the sensational show, 1,000 guests retreated to dinner in a lavish tent awash in mock cherry trees, antiqued iron urns filled with cherry blossoms, and 550 floating spherical paper lanterns.
Musical minglers included: Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Kitty Carlisle Hart, Somers and Jonathan Farkas, Donald and Barbara Tober, and Dayle Haddon.
A Juilliard jubilee!
