Broadway lovers staged a celebration at the National Arts Club in honor of legendary Broadway photographer Aubrey Reuben’s inauguration as acting president of Outer Critics Circle (OCC), the organization of theatre writers who cover NYC shows for publications outside the city.
In his “Inaugural Address,” the new Prez Reuben joked: “George called from the White House to congratulate me, and said he had sent me bodyguards. He told me that as president of a bunch of critics, I needed protection!”
And “bodyguards” they were. The new prez was flanked by a bevy of beauties, including personal trainer Tatiana Freudenthaler (Reuben lightheartedly told The Sheet, “She wants a raise so she can afford the rest of her dress”) and singer Heather Schmid (Miss Millenium).
Maureen McGovern, star of Broadway’s Little Women, was on hand briefly (before her own curtain) to sing a specially composed musical parody by Irving Fields, written to the tune of “Give My Regards To Broadway.” (If you’d like to sing along, it’s: “Give my regards to Aubrey…”).
In the talented pack: National Arts Club Prez Aldon James, Marian Seldes, Terrence McNally, Tina Louise, Stewart Lane, Irving Welzer, Jamie deRoy, and Randie Levine-Miller. A critically acclaimed evening… now it’s on with the show!
