SThe Encompass New Opera Theatre hosted an 80th birthday celebration for legendary composer, lyricist, and librettist Sheldon Harnick at the National Arts Club, which benefited the Theatre (Harnick’s artistic home base for the past 30 years, during which he has co-chaired its advisory board). Stephen Sondheim was the honorary gala co-chair; included in the birthday festivities were: Jerry Bock, Mary Rodgers and Henry Guettel, Fred Ebb, Marlo Thomas, Tovah Feldshuh, John Kander, Joseph and Elisa Stein, Jeffrey Lyons (Harnick’s cousin), Hal Prince, Beverly Sills, Rita Moreno, Joe Masteroff, and Barbara Barrie and Jay Harnick. Dazzling performances were given by Alfred Molina, Randy Graff, K.T. Sullivan, Harolyn Blackwell, and Glenn Close. Here’s to life, and to Harnick’s Happy 80th!
