Co-chairs Juliana Terian and Marc Rosen, along with Arlene Dahl, Yue-Sai Kan, Donald and Barbara Tober, Jo and Paul Hallingby, New York magazine’s editor-in-chief Caroline Miller, Interview’s Ingrid Sischy, Christopher Forbes, artists Jeanne-Claude and Christo, Robert Osborne, Agnes Gund, and emcee news anchor Sue Simmons, helped salute the 2002 Pratt Legends at the Rainbow Room. Four eminent artists and designers—legendary caricaturist Al Hirschfeld, Tiffany’s style-branding creative director John Loring, influential designer/ceramist Eva Zeisel, and late renowned sculptor Stephan Weiss—became official Pratt Legends at the famed art institute’s annual gala.
Walter Cronkite presented the honor to Hirschfeld, who was also treated to a huge birthday cake to celebrate his 99 years of life (72 of them at The New York Times)! But the night’s highlight was Donna Karan’s moving tribute to husband Stephan Weiss, who died last year of lung cancer. Accepting his award, she made it clear that through their life together, he was the man behind the woman—and now she wants his art to shine: “I owe my strength to him. He was my teacher. He taught me how to ski, so I was a smart alec and went skiing without him—and broke my leg.” (That explained her cane.) Michael Feinstein capped off the night with an over-the-top performance in anticipation of his concert at Carnegie Hall.
