The Rich & Bejeweled flocked to one of fall’s social summits—the annual Rita Hayworth Gala, chaired by Princess Yasmin Aga Khan and Andrea Stark, and honoring Margo Catsimatidis, Paulo Costa, and Muffie Potter Aston. For the gala theme—Hayworth’s 1948 screen classic The Lady from Shanghai—the Waldorf’s grand ballroom was transformed into a Shanghai of its own: plumes of exotic flowers in lucite towers, delicate centerpieces of floating candles and purple orchids, and inspired Chinese fare like shrimp and chicken spring rolls, stir-fried veggies, and green tea and lichee ice cream with pineapple confection.

Deborah Norville emceed the live auction, and A-listers like The Donald with Melania Knauss, Claudia Cohen, Anne Hearst, Ron Silver, and John Catsimatidis let loose to the legendary Allman Brothers Band—while lead drummer Claude “Butch” Trucks Jr. received a Caregiver Award for his commitment to his mom, who died of Alzheimer’s this year. De Grisogno, jewelers extraordinaire, sponsored the glittering gala, which fetched $1.3 million to benefit the Rita Hayworth Alzheimer’s Association.
