Birthday toast on stage

What do Christopher Reeve, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Barbara Walters, and Ron Meyer have in common? They share the same birthday! And all five blew out cake candles at the “Magical Birthday” bash to benefit the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF). At a milestone age, the inspirational Reeve said, “I almost left the planet several years ago—I’m thrilled to be alive and 50.”

Kim Cattrall—looking like she just got out of bed, or maybe was still in bed...I’m talking uncoiffed coiffed bedroom hair—hosted the gala at the Marriott Marquis ballroom packed with hot shots like Art Garfunkel, Alan Alda, Chevy Chase, John McEnroe and Patty Smythe, and Paula Zahn, among many others. Guests bid in a live auction for such goodies as an Al Hirschfeld lithograph of Whoopi Goldberg, platinum and diamond pendant from Neil Lane, and a chef tasting for four at the Sea Grill restaurant. And Robin Williams had them rolling on the floor with his stand-up shtick. The Sheet asked Williams what movie role was his favorite and why, to which he simply replied, “Dead Poets Society, because it’s about teachers and real life.” True.
