Kimmi Kappenberg, Jimmy Buffett

Patriotic celebs and East Enders alike turned up in droves to support the greatest all-American pastime and the Child Development Center of the Hamptons at the fourth annual Maidstoners Softball Challenge. Alec Baldwin, Jimmy Buffett, Roy Scheider, “Survivor” Kimmi Kappenberg, New York State Senator Kenneth LaValle, East Hampton town supervisor Jay Schneiderman, CDHC executive director Dawn Zimmerman-Hummel, and prez Jane Petrycki all stepped up to the plate.

But at this event they raised bucks for the New York State World Trade Center Relief Fund, and the goal coincided with one of CHDC’s own aims—instilling patriotism in children. In between innings I caught up with Alec Baldwin and asked him for his take on the Day of Infamy: “There are no words to explain it,” he said. Then added, “It’s going to be a long time … a long haul.” Restaurants like Stephen Talkhouse, Michael’s, Old Stone Market, Bostwicks, Jessie’s Bake Shop, O’Malleys, Mt. Fuji, Estia, and Café on Main provided home-run tastes for the players and flag wavers.
