The Child Development Center of the Hamptons saluted Mayor Giuliani with a benefit bash at the Pierre Hotel. Soaring kites were the evening's theme, a symbol of the hope the CDCH strives to give preschool children with disabilities such as Down's syndrome, autism, and cerebral palsy. Glamorous high-flyers included Michael and Jane Petrycki, who chaired the event, Anne Marie Gray and Steve Haymes, Salle Podos-Untermeyer, Betsy McCaughey Ross, co chair Teresa Furman, Barbara Feldman, Larry and Sandy Rosenthal, Lori Shabtai–who launched City magazine–and Andrew Silverman. The mayor arrived late but in good spirits, and when I asked him if he'd hailed a cab to get to the event, he replied, "Cabs won't pick me up." We don't wonder why. On stage Mayor Rudy wowed the crowd with his gangster shtick, likened to The Godfather, his all-time favorite flick. Maybe he was in theatrical mode as he was in the midst of rehearsals for his upcoming Inner Circle gig. The Donald and main squeeze Melania Knauss (yes, still hot and heavy) made an appearance for a full minute and a half!
