look just like a movie star," I quipped to the dark shaded Baldwin, among the earliest dinner dance arrivals. Chevy Chase shunned the press on his way into the tent. Earth to Chevy: No one cared. In contrast, press-pal Julie Andrews proved what a pro she is, as did supermodel Christie Brinkley, perpetually ready for her close-up. Brinkley's equally photogenic architect hubby Peter Cooke was by her side, A-mixing with Alan Alda, Edward Albee, Roy and Brenda Scheider, Jon Robin Baitz, Sybil Christopher, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Terrence McNally, Phyllis Newman, Joe Pintauro, and Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith. One of the night's auction items was a flight for eight on Sikorsky Shares luxury helicopter–it went for $8,000 and was only worth five grand. Good thing for Hamptons' deep pockets, especially after a couple of cocktails.
