While arctic New York shivered under full-length furs, the sun-drenched elite of Palm Beach explored the treasures of the 8th International Fine Art & Antique Fair at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, built on a 21-acre site designed by renowned horticulture and landscape artist Mario Nievera. The 10-day exhibit opened with the elegant Vernissage (“private opening”) 200, which raised $400,000 for the Norton Museum of Art. There, art patrons Emilia and Pepe Fanjul, Grace and Chris Meigher, and Hilary Geary were spotted perusing the Fair’s exqui-site treasures, which ranged from the 1633 Rembrandt portrait, “Man in a Red Doublet,” to pottery salvaged from the Early Tang Dynasty.
In Palm Beach, though, one party is never enough! The following evening, an exclusive, by-invitation-only Preview Party drew notables including co-chair Donald Trump and Melania Knauss, Rick and Kathy Hilton, and Regis and Joy Philbin.
Among the nearly 90 international dealers exhibiting at this year’s Fair (in the mix of sculpture, ceramics, tribal art, rare books and manuscripts, antique carpets and tapestries, portraits, and objects of art), 10 were top-of-the-line, sparkle-off-the-Richter-scale jewelers, including Sabbadini, Graff, David Morris, Aviva, and Richters. While each tempter claimed to possess objects more priceless than anything else at the Fair, the unquestionable, over-the-top winner was new exhibitor Vivid, displaying an 11-carat, D-Flawless, cushion-cut diamond, selling for a mere $20 mil. A close second: Graff’s 101.28-carat diamond, now twinkling brightly in Laurence Graff’s new Worth Avenue salon. As always, the classic, annual Palm Beach event dazzled the dazzling!
