La Stritch

Elaine Stritch is packing up and hitting the road—out of Sag Harbor, that is, and heading to London for a stint at the Old Vic, where her Broadway hit Elaine Stritch At Liberty launches a 17-week run starting October 1. La Stritch sold her place for over $1 mil and hosted a garage sale—for everything but the walls … and I mean everything! From hats she donned for movie parts in Out to Sea and Woody Allen’s September to the jewels she sported in Screwed with Danny DeVito, not to mention tea pots, silverware, glassware—even autographed copies of the diva herself gracing the June cover of The Hampton Sheet!

Stritch’s self-proclaimed love of the buck showed in her not-so-cheap prices on used items, but the cash flowed with NO negotiating! In the middle of the thriving sale, the au natural actress turned around nonchalantly, quipped, “Excuse me, I have to take my insulin shot,” injected herself in the hip, and jumped back into the fray. Talk about a trooper. To top it off, she unloaded an orchid plant—a gift from Paul Newman—for 35 bucks … a most unusual show of cash and carry!!!
