The worlds of fashion and furniture gelled at Cipriani 42nd Street for a night of “Giants of Design” sponsored by Rolex and House Beautiful to benefit the New York School of Interior Design. Honorees received awards for their lifetime contributions—Mario Buatta for interior design, Sir Terence Conran for creative retailing, Oscar de la Renta for taste-making, Zaha Hadid for architecture, and Jack Kyle for arts education.
At the “giants” dinner, it was clear this wasn’t your typical knights-at-the-roundtable feast. The elegantly long tables streamed across the ballroom in an aesthetic view—with pink, magenta, and red poppies by Avi Adler softly planted onto tables in gold flower pots, as if guests including House Beautiful’s editor Marian McEvoy, Rolex prez Walter Fischer, Katherine Bryan, Alexandra Hamilton, Gayfryd Steinberg, Duane Hampton, Louise Grunwald, and Patricia Altschul were dining in a field of poppies!
