Hillary Clinton, Fran Weissler

The UJA Federation of New York honored Barry and Fran Weissler at the Bernard Jacobs Award Dinner at the Pierre. The Weisslers—who’ve nabbed five Tonys for producing such Broadway mega-hits as Othello, Grease, and Chicago—were awarded for their excellence in American theatre, and Senator Hillary Clinton delivered the dinner’s keynote address: “I’m here to offer my praise and gratitude to two people who have brought so much joy and laughter into so many people’s lives. They epitomize Broadway and New York.” On the state of New York post-9/11, Clinton added: “We have a long way to go till we’re back and stronger than ever.”
