Catch Me if You Can has come to Broadway. The book is by Terrence McNally, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. The new musical, playing at the Neil Simon Theatre, is based on the film of the same name. It’s the incredible story of Frank Abagnale Jr., who posed as pilot, doctor, and lawyer, and stole over $2 mil in forged checks. Aaron Tveit is splendid as the young con man. Norbert Leo Butz, the FBI agent on his trail, and Tom Wopat, as his father, also give superb performances, under the expert direction of Jack O’Brien. Jerry Mitchell is responsible for the wonderful choreography, which features 10 of the tallest and most glamorous chorus girls who have the longest legs on Broadway. The music is melodious, the lyrics intelligent, and the book tells a fascinating story.
