Beyoncé, fresh off winning her 17th Grammy Award,
shimmied into the Ziegfeld for the premiere of her
HBO documentary, Beyoncé: Life Is But a Dream. The
chanteuse put down the mic and picked up the camera
to co-direct, produce, and star in the fi lm, which
strips away the veneer of stardom and delivers a
multi faced portrait of the singer, songwriter, actress,
entrepreneur, wife, and mother.
The film invites us into some extremely intimate
moments and concludes with the birth of her daughter,
Blue Ivy. “Once I saw my daughter, I knew that
the end to this story, this documentary, was here and
I was ready to tell the story,” she told Oprah.
On the red carpet, we noticed lots of relatives of
Beyoncé’s with the surname “Beyince,” so we asked
her uncle Roland about this: “The name is my father’s
name. My sister Tina [Beyoncé’s mother] didn’t think
we had enough boys in the family to keep the name
going, so she gave her our last name as the fi rst
name.” And thus, Beyoncé was born.
