Hizzoner performs with the cast of Rock of Ages

The NY press corps transformed into standup comedians lampooning Mayor Bloomberg and other politicos at the traditional 91st annual Inner Circle dinner at the Hilton. This year’s event was titled, appropriately, “Last Gulp,” a reference to Hizzoner’s now infamous soda ban, while also referring to his last hurrah at the Inner Circle.

Jokes were literally on the menu, with dishes like “Smoke-Free Salmon,” “Tea Party Platter,” and “Boehner-Less Chicken With Barackoli Spears.” The press corps poked fun at Gristedes owner and mayoral hopeful John Catsimatidis, zinged Chris Christie and the end of Twinkies, and likened the locks of Christine Quinn to those sported by Jersey Shore types. Of course Anthony Weiner couldn’t escape his past sexploits.

During the second show, Bloomberg had a chance to give his rebuttal, which he performed with four Broadway shows: Phantom of the Opera, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Rock of Ages, and Annie. Thankfully, the great voices of the Great White Way drowned out Hizzoner, who sang off-key and danced with two left feet while his face was etched in pain. Throughout the evening, he donned various costumes, from an Easy Rider motorcycle jacket to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s hoodie: “Bloomberg. Zuckerberg. No difference,” the mayor quipped.
