We asked Dr. Sadick, one of NYC’s leading Dermatologists, to write this informative column to highlight some of the exciting new treatments that are available for anti-aging. Have longer lashes in 4-6 weeks with Latisse Flip through any fashion magazine and you’ll see models donning long, dark, full eyelashes. So, how can ordinary women get the same glamorous look?

There have always been false eyelashes and layers of mascara, but these solutions are temporary and can be expensive. In December 2008, Allergan, Inc., the company behind Botox, announced Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for LATISSE™, a new treatment for growing longer lashes. Today, with help from a doctor with prescribing rights, consumers may be able to grow long, striking lashes.

Latisse is a product with the same formula as a solution used to treat glaucoma patients. Side effects may include: red, itchy eyes and changes in eye pigmentation (especially on lighter eyes).

Many women are overjoyed by its arrival and hope to lose dependency on other temporary eyelash solutions. So far, my patients are seeing very positive results from the use of this new product.

New wrinkle treatment called Dysport

For years Botox was the only game in town to smooth the wrinkles on your forehead and around your eyes. Now Dysport, a Botox alternative, is ready for distribution in the US.

Dysport is similar to Botox and offers similar results by relaxing facial muscles on the forehead. Dysport works as an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent, approved by the FDA in late April 2009.

This new wrinkle treatment was developed in the UK in the early ‘90s and thousands of people around the world have been using Dysport for years. Some studies show that Dysport may have a quicker onset and a slightly longer duration than Botox.

We should also see a decrease in the cost of both treatments. Dysport is currently available at most major Dermatologist and Plastic Surgery Centers.

The best sunscreen for this summer – Anthelios 60

Every summer as I head to the beach, I research new sunscreen products and grab the one that has the best science and most advanced formulation. Over the past few years, sunscreens have evolved in many ways. They have broad spectrum blockers that curb the impact of UVA and UVB rays on the skin and researchers have worked hard to make these products cosmetically elegant while remaining highly effective.

The must-have sunscreen for the summer is called Anthelios 60. If you haven’t tried it or perhaps never heard of Anthelios 60, you are missing out. Developed by the scientists at La Roche-Posay, Anthelios 60 was just launched with three formulations each with SPF of 60. The line consists of Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid, Anthelios 60 Melt-In Sunscreen and Anthelios 60 Melt-In Sunscreen Milk.

The products are fast absorbing and offer super broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection with the breakthrough Cell-Ox Shield™. This water resistant product is great for use outdoors, for sports and of course at the beach.

Anthelios 60 uses a powerful anti-oxidant complex called Senna Alata, a tropical leaf extract that may help to defend skin cells.

Remember to apply sunscreen before you leave the house in the morning. This ensures that the product is absorbed into the skin and is protecting it. Re-apply often, especially after excessive sweating or swimming.

Tighten your abs and smooth cellulite with the new Body Tip 16 by Thermage

Whether your goal is to tighten your tummy or smooth away some of your cellulite, the new Thermage Body Tip 16 is the most advanced and fastest skin tightening treatment from Solta Medical. The tip is five times the surface area of traditional Thermage tips and therefore gives the same treatment in significantly less time.

We have been offering our patients Thermage treatments for over five years and feel confident that the technology achieves its promise. The Thermage Body Tip is great for the abdominal/stomach area, legs and buttocks.

This past year, Solta also launched its Eye Tip. In one treatment, a patient can see improved tightening around the eyes and in many cases the brows can be lifted. While this is not the same as a plastic surgical procedure, it can give 30–50% improvement.

If skin tightening is something you want to consider, ask your Dermatologist for more information.
