All diets were off at “The Biggest Small Town In The World” benefit at Rockefeller Center. Citymeals-on-Wheels and Restaurant Associates were hosting their 17th annual “do” featuring America’s Greatest Chefs in a tribute to James Beard, the organization’s late co-founder.
Noted architect/designer David Rockwell created the stunning décor, while Jerry Speyer and Nick Valenti played hosts at the splendid evening of tasting and dancing.
The well-heeled hungry included Gael Greene (Citymeals-on-Wheels co-founder), celebrity chef Mario Batali, Tim and Nina Zagat, restaurateurs Drew Neirporent and Marco Maccioni, Hairspray’s Marissa Jaret Winokur, Lillian Vernon, Guess model Larissa B., Lally Weymouth, Robert Tisch, Todd Meister, Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., Cheryl Gordon, and John Pomerantz.
The featured renowned gustatory wizards included Wolfgang Puck (of Spago, of course, in Bev Hills), Charlie Palmer and his chef Dante Boccuzzi (Aureole, NY), Jody Adams (Rialto, Boston), Gale Gand and Rick Tramonto (Tru, Chicago), Dean Fearing (Mansion on Turtle Creek, Dallas), Nobu Matsuhisa (Nobu, NY) and Alice Waters (Chez Panisse, Berkeley, CA). Citymeals-on-Wheels, which funds nutritional home delivery for needy, elderly, homebound New Yorkers, brought all this culinary expertise chez nous to showcase their delectable delights and inspire the palate.
