Christie's Core cont.

HS: Speaking of Alexa, she seems to have great talent. I guess Billy Joel influences her. Does she want to be a rock star??
CB: She’s not interested in being a star, she just wants to sing, and write, and play the piano.

HS: What’s an average weekend for you??
CB: Well, I did love to ride horses, but my youngest turned four in July, and she’s not yet in the saddle. So while I have young kids, I prefer to do things that they can join in on. We’re on the water a lot. We have a fleet of kayaks, and we load them up in the back of our pickup—it’s a kayaker’s heaven here! We pull up on totally empty beaches and collect seashells. I’m a seashell nut—I’ve collected seashells all over the world from my modeling career. I make things out of them like our fireplace mantle in the kitchen, and frames and memento boxes.

HS: Sounds like you could be the next Martha Stewart!?
CB: I wish! I love arts and crafts, and my children do, too. We also have a lobster boat, and we love chugging around on that and anchoring and swimming off the boat. And my two youngest kids and I are passionate gardeners. We grow all our own organic vegetables. Deadheading, and digging, and planting, and moving things around—I’ll be gardening and suddenly I’ll realize I’m in the moonlight!

HS: How would you describe your marriage to Peter Cook? And what makes relationships work or fail??
CB: Well, honesty is the foundation that allows a couple to thrive. I’d say that that’s the answer to all the questions. But Peter is just such a great guy and our lives are so intertwined. He knows everything about my business. He can bring his blueprints with him and accompany me if I have to be away, which is just so nice. He is the most incredible father you could ever see to all three kids. He’s very aware of being a stepfather to Alexa, because her dad is very involved. But Billy and Peter get along great, they both appreciate each other’s sense of humor. Peter and I have the same strong feelings about wanting to protect our children’s future, to make sure that they can enjoy nature the way we have. And so we share the same interests, and now Peter has become Chairman of the Board of the STAR Foundation.
