Sony Pictures Classics’ Curse of the Golden Flower premiered in a dazzling array of colors to quite an impressed audience at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, with an after party at Gabriel’s.
The action-packed film, starring Chow Yun-Fat, Jay Chou, and Gong Li (along with 6,000 extras), which we liken to a giant kaleidoscope, was a visual feast! Director Zhang Yimou gave artistic order to the wonderful chaos, and the end result was a $35 million movie that looked more like $100 mil to us!
Sony Classics co-founder Tom Bernard told us that aside from the cast, the extras were still the least expensive part of making this movie, which included a lavish Chinese Dynasty set.
In the movie mix: Glenn Close, Jackie “the Joke Man” Martling, Placido Domingo, Carlos Souza, Dan Hedaya, Candace Bergen and Marshall Rose, Irina Pantaeva, Michael Barker, Michael Nouri, and Elizabeth and Tony LoBianco.
