The United Nations honors exceptional individuals for their outstanding humanitarian contributions at their annual Awards Dinner. Dignitaries arrived in droves at The Waldorf in support of this year's honorees-Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie and philanthropist Leonore Annenberg (unable to attend due to illness).
Jolie, a refugee-rights activist and a Goodwill Ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, was awarded for her tireless work in over 20 countries, including Russia, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. The actress softened her well-known "bad girl" image by looking refined in an elegant black dress (covering her numerous tattoos with a black shawl) as she accepted the esteemed Global Humanitarian Action Award.
